I particularly enjoyed the Omar Khayyam section, which was just beautiful. This volume and a lot of the other work of the “new” atheists are extremely ayheist to those who are halfway between belief and unbelief. I bought it from Amazon for RS But for confirmed atheists, the fight should not be specifically against religion. The great thing about reading atheizt that you are bound to learn something new.
Hitchens himself has also written an enjoyably barbarous introduction to the book, as well as brief introductions to each of the selected authors. If you read about atheism, you are probably familiar with the work of the late Christopher Hitchens, and his most famous contemporaries, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Dan Dennett. Or – religion is based on our willingness to be persuaded against all the evidence that we are indeed the centre of the universe and that everything is arranged with us in mind. I suspect that in putting together a book of this sort, that it is rather easy to load it up with material from dead authors – since their work is in the public domain and thus no royalties need be paid.
Some thoughts from reading snippets of this tome for my job.
